Summary

Beforeword uses Sign in with Apple for account access, Cloudflare for account sessions, Apple for payments, and RevenueCat for purchase and entitlement history. Challenge progress and private reflections stay on your device and are not synced to a server. Beforeword does not sell personal data, show ads, or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

Account data

When you sign in, Beforeword receives an Apple account identifier, Apple authentication tokens, and—only when Apple provides it—your name. Beforeword requests your name but does not request or use your email address. The service stores a keyed hash of the Apple identifier, a random internal account ID, an optional display name, an encrypted Apple refresh token, hashed session credentials, and the start and end of your five-day included-access period.

A non-reversible keyed identifier and grant dates remain after account deletion to prevent the same Apple identity from repeatedly claiming first-time access. A minimal deletion audit record is also retained for security and compliance.

Challenge and reflection data

Your starting chapter, challenge progress, completion history, streaks, timer state, plan settings, private reflections, mood choices, reminder state, and widget state stay on your device. Beforeword does not upload or sync this data to Cloudflare or another server.

Beforeword is a companion for reading in your own Bible. The app includes only a curated daily verse library from the public-domain World English Bible; chapter reading happens in the Bible you already own or use.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Beforeword schedules a reference-only daily reminder on your device. Beforeword does not operate a notification server and does not receive your reminder time.

Subscriptions and purchases

Beforeword Pro is offered through Apple as a weekly, monthly, or yearly auto-renewing subscription. Apple processes payment details; Beforeword never receives your full payment-card number. RevenueCat receives the random Beforeword account ID, purchase and entitlement history, current offering, and product-interaction events so Beforeword can grant access, restore purchases, and understand paywall use. RevenueCat does not receive challenge progress, mood choices, or private reflections.

The first five days are a server-provided access grant, not an Apple free trial. No payment is required, and the grant never converts into a charge. Deleting a Beforeword account does not cancel a subscription in your Apple Account.

Data collected

Beforeword’s app privacy declaration covers Name, User ID, Purchase History, and Product Interaction. These data types are linked to your account, are not used for tracking, and are used for app functionality; Purchase History and Product Interaction are also used for analytics. Beforeword does not collect your private reflections or challenge history on a server.

Sharing and service providers

Cloudflare hosts the account and session API. Apple provides Sign in with Apple, App Store, StoreKit, notifications, widgets, and the system share sheet. RevenueCat provides subscription entitlement and experiment services. Data sent to these services travels over HTTPS, and authentication or provider tokens are hashed or encrypted as appropriate. When you contact support or use Copy, Share, or Wallpaper, the service or destination you choose processes that action under its own privacy policy.

Availability

Beforeword is available in the United States only.

Your controls

You can change or erase local challenge data, reset local data, sign out, restore purchases, manage a subscription, and request account deletion from inside Beforeword. Account deletion revokes active sessions, deletes the Beforeword account record, and deletes the device’s challenge data. A non-reversible access-grant record and a minimal deletion audit record may remain as described above. Account deletion does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage or cancel billing separately through your Apple Account.

Children

Beforeword is a general-audience Scripture app and does not knowingly use children’s data for advertising or tracking. A parent or guardian may contact us about an account or deletion request.
